Mariscal is a Spanish artist and designer whose work has spanned a wide range of mediums, ranging from painting and sculpture to interior design and landscaping. Although formally trained, his first steps were in the world of underground comics, a passion he soon combined with illustration, sculpture, graphic and interior design and likes to tap into wider influences from art and architecture, design and illustration. His designs have a truly global appeal. In 2009 he had a retrospective show in the Design Museum in London with 640 visual ideas, walls jammed with merchandise, logos and type faces prompting director Dejan Sudjic to hail Mariscal as "The nearest thing to Walt Disney from the counterculture".
Javier drew and co directed with Oscar winning director Fernando Tuba, the 2010 British/Spanish animated feature length film Chico and Rita. The film was nominated for the Oscars in 2012 in the category of best-animated film.
