Art, design, and making define the house of Christopher Farr Cloth, which was created by Michal Silver with partners Christopher Farr and Matthew Bourne. Since its inception in 2000, Cloth’s creative direction has been underpinned by a commitment to the finest materials, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative collaborations with renowned artists and designers around the world. Today, the collection encompasses fabrics, wallcoverings and passementeries, reflecting a passion for time-honoured textile production processes and an intellectual yet playful approach to design and experimentation.
Cloth’s palette of instantly recognisable hues acts as a unifier that draws together the creativity of an array of artists and designers, from historical to contemporary. The collection’s unique designs are born out of ongoing conversations and exchanges of ideas with designers, as well as inspiration drawn from past archival work by 20th century artists.
The collection is produced by a very selective group of craftsmen. All designs are hand- and screen-printed at a family owned printer in the U.K. The woven textiles are produced in European artisanal mills, exploring new weave structures and innovative yarn spinning.
Cloth builds upon Christopher Farr’s unrivalled expertise in custom handmade rugs and tapestries. Established in 1988, the Christopher Farr rug collection rapidly became known as the catalyst that revolutionised contemporary rug design and restored rug-making to the status of fine art. Alongside Farr’s own work, the collection today includes collaborations with a considered roster of international artists, architects, fashion designers and other visionaries. Christopher Farr rugs are a frequent sight at global art and design exhibitions, and in the homes of connoisseurs and collectors worldwide.
