Initially an abstract painter, Slade School graduate Christopher Farr won a Boise Traveling Fellowship to Peru in 1975. There, Farr became enraptured by pre-Columbian textiles, and determined to explore ways to marry his love of abstract art with ancient textile arts, he traveled to Western Turkey to learn rug making. His modernist interest in colour and form, combined with the age-old techniques of hand dyeing and hand looming, helped make Christopher Farr one of the preeminent rug designers of today.
