The Array Embroidered Cushion – Editions 1 & 2 presents a meeting of artistic voices, where Makoto Kagoshima’s joyful botanical world is reinterpreted through the hand of Alice Kettle. Printed on linen, Array Green unfolds as a lively composition of flowers and foliage, imbued with Kagoshima’s signature spontaneity, charm and painterly lightness.
Each cushion is hand embroidered by Alice Kettle, whose intuitive, gestural stitching transforms the printed surface into a richly layered textile artwork. Working in cotton thread, she traces, disrupts and responds to the botanical forms, introducing rhythm, texture and a sense of movement that shifts the piece beyond decoration. No two are identical; each cushion becomes a singular edition, defined by the presence of the artist’s hand.
The reverse, in Soprano Green, offers a fun grounding, a intentional counterpoint to the expressive front. The cushion is framed with Vertelli Rosa piping, a finely drawn edge that introduces a subtle yet vibrant accent, enhancing the palette while maintaining a tailored finish.
Presented as Edition 1 and Edition 2, these cushions move into the realm of the collectible, objects that sit between textile, craft and art. Each piece reflects a shared commitment to colour, storytelling and the enduring value of handwork.
