A whimsical Garden of Delights: The Olaf Hajek Collection
Renowned for its dedication to colour, pattern, and artistry, Christopher Farr Cloth is proud to collaborate with German Artist Olaf Hajek on a collection bursting with whimsy and playful charm.
Marking the first time his artwork has been translated into wallcoverings, the collection comprises of two printed linens and four wallpapers, including River of Joy, Dancing Parade, Dancing Vines, and Trees of Wonder. Together, the designs transform interiors into vibrant storyscapes where art, nature, and imagination come together in joyful harmony.
This collection is a beautiful extension of my free work, brought to life in a tactile, immersive way.
The Artist Behind the Collection
Olaf Hajek, a German-born artist based in Berlin, is internationally renowned for his vivid and surreal illustrations that weave together nature, folklore, and cultural motifs from around the world. Trained in graphic design, he has built a distinctive visual language where flora, fauna, archaic symbols, and contemporary themes merge in richly detailed, colorful tableaux.
Influenced by African traditions, Indian temple art, South American folklore, and pop culture, his work transforms mental images gathered through travel and observation into enchanting patterns and scenes. His work is exhibited globally from London to Cape Town, regularly collaborating with the likes of Hermès and Fortnum & Mason. Olaf brings a unique artistic vision to textile design, infusing fabrics with storytelling, imagination, and cultural resonance.
A Space for Making
Perched on the edge of the Mediterranean, Olaf’s studio is both a working space and a sanctuary. His daily ritual begins with a long cycle along the Majorcan coastline from the city of Palma, leaving the bustle behind before arriving at his studio in Cala Major. Stepping inside, the space opens onto a sweeping panorama. The blue of the sea shimmers beyond the glass, with the island’s undulating hills framing the horizon. As Olaf notes, light is the most important thing in his work. In this calm, uncluttered interior, large windows draw light deep into the studio, shifting throughout the day and subtly colouring the space. “It is my own creative space, my own little world,” Olaf says. Here, he works fluidly across different media, moving between watercolour, pastel, paint, paper, wood, and canvas. Part studio, part retreat, it is a place where landscape, light, and process quietly converge, allowing his imaginative, world-building compositions to emerge at their own pace.
When It Just Makes Sense
Christopher Farr Cloth’s meticulous attention to colour and pattern, paired with Olaf Hajek’s expressive, vibrant work, rich with life and imagination, made this a match made in textile heaven. From the outset, the collaboration felt instinctive, rooted in a shared understanding of colour as storytelling and a mutual attention to detail.
The collection brings these sensibilities together in a way that feels both natural and considered, allowing Olaf’s paintings to live effortlessly within interiors. It was this shared curiosity, sensitivity to colour, and care for craft that shaped the collaboration from the very beginning.
A Dialogue Between Mediums
Working on this collection with Olaf Hajek has been such a joy over the past year. As soon as we saw the prints, they felt incredibly natural to work with, making it easy to imagine how they could be repeated and brought to life as wallpaper or linen. Every time I returned to his paintings, I noticed something new, a detail, a gesture or even a hidden figure, there was always more to discover. That sense of richness and surprise made every day spent working on this collection feel exciting and rewarding.
Olaf’s use of colour is something we deeply admire, so it was important for us to honour and preserve his original palette. Alongside this, we explored more natural, earthy-toned colourways as well as our classic indigo, always taking inspiration from Olaf’s own approach to colour and being careful not to disrupt the distinctive mood he had created. Small, considered changes in colour had a powerful effect, shaping and refining the overall mood of each colourway.
Sofia Chapel, Design Assistant
I was lured into Olaf’s folklorish imagery where he explores the concept of beauty through narratives rich in flora, fauna and mystical creatures. There is a magical realism to his work with its explosion of colour, abundance of detail, texture and story telling which takes me back to one of my favourite books, 100 years of solitude by Gabriel García Márquez.
Together, the Olaf Hajek collection brings art, nature, and imagination into the interior in a way that feels both joyful and deeply considered. Across River of Joy, Dancing Parade, Dancing Vines, and Trees of Wonder, each design invites closer looking, revealing layers of detail, symbolism, and storytelling over time. Whether unfolding as expansive murals or repeating patterns, the collection transforms walls and fabrics into vibrant storyscapes, rich with colour, movement, and life.
