BARRON AND LARCHER

Textile designers Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher lived and worked together for over three decades, earning renown for their custom-designed fabrics, masterful use of natural dyes, and pioneering hand-block printing workshops in Hampstead and later Painswick. Barron’s geometry-led patterns and Larcher’s organically inspired motifs formed a harmonious partnership that attracted prestigious commissions, including Girton College, Cambridge, and Winchester Cathedral. Today, many of their original printing blocks are held in the collection of the Crafts Study Centre, University for the Creative Arts, which has collaborated with Christopher Farr Cloth to reintroduce a curated selection of their influential designs.
