The Carnival Embroidered Cushion is a celebration of expressive colour and layered craftsmanship, where archival design is transformed through the hand of Alice Kettle. Featuring a vibrant composition across Green, Cirque en Fleur and Stockholm fabrics, the design unfolds in a richly saturated palette, alive with movement, rhythm and decorative intensity.
Each cushion is hand embroidered by Alice Kettle, whose intuitive, gestural stitching brings depth and individuality to the design. Using cotton thread, she traces and responds to the printed ground, layering texture and narrative across the surface. No two are alike; each cushion becomes a singular, one-off edition, defined by the rhythm of the artist’s hand.

About the Artists
Michael Szell's textiles are as exuberant as the designer's life. Arriving in London from Hungary in the post-war years, Szell studied at the Royal College of Art, quickly finding his métier in flamboyant colours, maximalist patterns and oversized motifs.
Alice Kettle is internationally recognised for her expressive embroidered works, where stitch becomes a form of drawing. Her intuitive, painterly approach transforms textiles into narrative surfaces, with works held in major collections including the V&A. In this collaboration, her hand reinterprets the printed design, bringing depth, individuality and an artisanal presence to each piece.
