Javier Mariscal is a Spanish artist and designer whose work has spanned various mediums, from painting and sculpture to interior design and landscaping.
Although formally trained, his first steps were in the world of underground comics, a passion he soon combined with illustration, sculpture, graphic and interior design, and he likes to tap into broader influences from art and architecture, design and illustration. As a result, his designs have a truly global appeal. Mariscal drew and co-directed the 2010 British/Spanish animated feature-length film Chico and Rita with Oscar-winning director Fernando Tuba. The film was nominated for the Oscars in 2012 in the category of best-animated film.
